Hum Bug Eliminates Noise in the Signal Path Without Adjustments
The Hum Bug Line Noise Eliminator from Quest Scientific removes line frequency noise from electrophysiological signals without filtering or requiring ongoing user attention. That means more time getting results, and less time solving continuously evolving noise and ground loop problems.
** Note: Due to licensing agreements, we are not permitted to sell the Hum Bug Noise Eliminator to customers located in the UK.
THEORY OF OPERATION: All functions occur in parallel as the signal passes in a direct analogue path between input and output. The HumBug effectively isolates noise from an input signal even when the noise characteristics are evolving and the frequency components of the noise and input signal overlap.
FREQUENCY RESPONSE: Biological signals pass through the Hum Bug unchanged for Frequency components in the range of DC to greater than 500 kHz.
COMPLEX NOISE: Electrical interference often generates a mixture of harmonics at multiples of 50/60 Hz (e.g. 100 Hz, 150 Hz, 200 Hz). The Hum Bug eliminates all harmonics with Frequencies up to several kHz. Therefore, even the complex spikes generated by dimmers and fluorescent lamps are eliminated.
APPLICATIONS: The Hum Bug can eliminate 50/60 Hz noise from virtually any analog signal. It is equally effective at removing noise associated with inadequate grounding, ground loops, and electrical pick up. Common applications include noise elimination from signals recorded using microelectrodes, skin electrodes (EKG, EMG, EEG), high gain amplifiers, magnetic sensors and audio equipment.

It is recommended that A-M Systems perform the needed repairs as we are the most familiar with the units. Please contact us for information on how to get your unit repaired. Please note that any user-attempted repairs during the warranty period may invalidate the warranty, and might invoke additional charges to correct them if A-M Systems is required to make repairs at a later date.

All of A-M Systems instruments can be modified to work outside of the United States. Typically, this modification is made at the factory (at no additional cost) prior to shipping to our customers. Just inform the customer service department where the instrument will be used, so our technicians can prepare the proper power supply modifications.
The HumBug Noise Eliminator is designed to be used under laboratory conditions. Operate in a clean, dry environment only. Do not operate in a damp environment. Temperatures for storage and operation should be between 5 °C and 40 °C. Storage should be indoors in a cool dry place.
